China's Commerce Ministry Says It will Disregard Trump's Tariff Game

AsianFin -- China's Ministry of Commerce said on Friday afternoon that China will disregard it if the United States continues its tariff game, in the wake of U.S. President Donald Trump's Thursday announcement on a hike in tariffs on Chinese goods to 145%.

"However, should the U.S. insist on further substantial infringement of China's rights and interests, China will retaliate and fight to the end,“ said a spokesperson of the ministry.

China has already taken corresponding countermeasures regarding tariffs, the spokesperson noted, adding that the U.S. has unilaterally imposed tariffs, which seriously violate international economic and trade rules and go against basic economic principles and common sense.

"This has caused severe shocks and turmoil in the current world economy, global markets, and the multilateral trade system, for which the U.S. should bear full responsibility," said the spokesperson.

"The U.S. has turned its repeated imposition of excessively high tariffs on China into a mere numerical game, which has no practical significance economically and only exposes the U.S. manipulation and weaponization of tariffs as a means of bullying and coercion, ultimately becoming a joke," the spokesperson said.
