AsianFin --During his annual address on Thursday, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun revealed that the company purchased three Tesla Model Ys and disassembled them to analyze their components.
“We bought three Model Ys at the start of this year, taking them apart piece by piece to study each component individually,” Lei told a large audience at the Beijing National Convention Center.
A large screen behind him displayed a side-by-side comparison of Tesla’s Model Y and Xiaomi’s upcoming YU7 electric SUV.
Lei praised the Model Y, calling it “a really good car.” He added with a smile, “If you don’t choose the YU7, you could consider the Model Y.”
The CEO also highlighted Xiaomi’s extensive efforts in designing the YU7’s interior space. He said the final design of the YU7 “definitely holds its own against the Model Y.”
