NextFin News — Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. has agreed to place 710 million newly issued ordinary shares at HK$112.70 each, raising expected gross proceeds of HK$80 billion, the company announced.
The placing agreement was signed Sunday with joint overall coordinators acting for themselves and on behalf of joint bookrunners. The shares will be sold to at least six placees who are professional, institutional or other investors outside the United States and who are non-U.S. persons. Completion is expected on Aug. 26, subject to customary conditions. Net proceeds after commissions and expenses are estimated at about HK$79.7 billion.
Alibaba said it intends to use 100 percent of the net proceeds to invest in its full-stack artificial-intelligence capabilities, including the expansion and enhancement of AI infrastructure, to extend its global AI leadership.
