AsianFin -- Amazon has laid off employees in its books division, including staff at Goodreads and the Kindle team, as part of a broader effort to streamline operations, the company confirmed Thursday.
Fewer than 100 roles were affected, with the Seattle-based tech giant citing a need to boost efficiency and better align with its business roadmap.
“As part of our ongoing work to make our teams and programs operate more efficiently, and to better align with our business roadmap, we’ve made the difficult decision to eliminate a small number of roles within the Books organization,” an Amazon spokesperson said in a statement.
The cuts follow a string of recent workforce reductions across Amazon’s devices and services division, its Wondery podcast unit, and teams involved in retail and internal communications.
CEO Andy Jassy has been driving a broader effort to cut costs and reduce corporate layers, aiming to trim what he has called “excess bureaucracy.”
Despite the layoffs, Amazon added roughly 4,000 jobs in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the final quarter of 2024, according to a recent company disclosure.
