The information was reported by the Azerbaijani outlet Caliber.az, which is close to Azerbaijan's Ministry of Defense and intelligence services. The report followed a phone conversation on August 10 between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, during which they condemned Russian strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure, including Azerbaijani assets.
Russian forces launched drone attacks on the night of August 7–8, 2025, targeting an oil depot owned by the Azerbaijani state oil company SOCAR in the Odesa region of Ukraine. The attack caused a fire, damaged a diesel pipeline, and seriously injured four SOCAR employees. This was the second recent strike on Azerbaijani-linked energy facilities in Ukraine.
Earlier, Russian forces also attacked a gas compressor station near the village of Orlivka in the Odesa region, a key part of the Trans-Balkan pipeline that supplies Azerbaijani gas to Ukraine and Europe. The Ukrainian Ministry of Energy described the attack as an attempt to disrupt energy trade relations between Kyiv, Baku, and their partners.
The Azerbaijani media report stated that if Russia continues its aggressive policy against Azerbaijan's interests, official Baku will begin considering lifting the arms embargo to supply Ukraine with weapons from its arsenal. Until now, Azerbaijan has provided humanitarian aid to Ukraine, exceeding $40 million, including reconstruction efforts in the city of Irpin.
