According to a sector briefing from China's Ministry of Commerce’s Department of Electronic Commerce on May 26, online retail sales for smart glasses and humanoid robotics surged 175.2% and 20.6% year-on-year respectively throughout April. Additionally, expanding adoption of localized digital consumer environments drove a staggering 785.5% cumulative increase in the online retail volume of intelligent assistive mobility exoskeletons from January to April.
Broad national infrastructure indicators published by the National Bureau of Statistics confirmed total online retail sales grew 6.6% during the first four months of 2026. Online physical merchandise channels contributed an unprecedented 72.2% to the overall growth rate of China's total retail sales of social consumer goods over the same period.
