China Releases Mintz Employees After Two-Year Detention, Company Confirms

AsianFin -- China has released all Mintz Group employees who had been detained for two years following a raid on the firm's Beijing office in March 2023, a spokesperson for the U.S.-based due diligence company told Reuters via email.

The raid led to the detention of five local staff members and marked the start of a broader crackdown on consultancy and due diligence firms, including Bain & Company’s Shanghai office and Capvision Partners. At the time, foreign business groups warned that the crackdown had undermined investor confidence in China’s economy.

“We are grateful to the Chinese authorities that our former colleagues can now be home with their families,” a Mintz spokesperson said.

In May 2023, Reuters reported that Mintz had conducted corporate due diligence related to potential forced labor in supply chains linked to China’s Xinjiang region, citing sources familiar with the matter.

Mintz operates 12 offices worldwide with a team of over 280 investigators, according to its website.
