A spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Commerce said on Wednesday that the Dutch government must take full responsibility for what Beijing described as a growing crisis in the global semiconductor supply chain, following remarks by the Netherlands’ Minister of Economic Affairs Vincent Karremans defending tougher measures against chipmaker Nexperia.
Responding to Karremans’ comments in an interview with Dutch media that stricter action against Nexperia was necessary, the spokesperson said China had repeatedly warned that the Dutch side’s “improper administrative intervention” in Nexperia’s internal corporate affairs had already disrupted the stability of the global semiconductor industry.
“The Dutch side must bear full responsibility for the consequences,” the spokesperson said, adding that such intervention had triggered anxiety and uncertainty across the global semiconductor sector.
The spokesperson said it was “perplexing” that the Netherlands continued to maintain its position despite widespread concern within the industry, accusing the Dutch government of showing no sense of responsibility for the security and stability of the global semiconductor supply chain.
China called on the Dutch side to refrain from what it described as “willful and reckless” actions, to immediately correct its mistakes, and to remove barriers to restoring stability and security in the global semiconductor industry and supply chain.
