The Netherlands has paused its intervention in chipmaker Nexperia, Dutch Economic Affairs Minister Mona Keijzer-Karremans said in a statement posted on X on Wednesday, signaling a potential easing of tensions over the Chinese-owned semiconductor firm.
“In light of recent developments, I believe now is the right moment to take constructive steps,” Karremans said. Her remarks follow comments on Nov. 13 that a Dutch government delegation would travel to China “early next week” to seek a resolution to issues surrounding Nexperia, which is owned by China’s Wingtech Technology.
On Nov. 13, China’s Ministry of Commerce said Beijing had held multiple rounds of consultations with the Dutch side since the Nexperia issue emerged, emphasizing its commitment to the stability and security of global semiconductor supply chains. China also confirmed it had agreed to the Dutch Economic Affairs Ministry’s request to send representatives for talks in Beijing.
Beijing urged the Netherlands to demonstrate “genuine willingness for cooperation,” present “substantive and constructive” proposals, and take concrete steps to swiftly restore the stability of global semiconductor production and supply chains.
