AsianFin -- China’s electrification rate continued to climb last year, surpassing levels in major developed economies in Europe and the United States, according to a new report.
The national electrification rate reached 28.8 percent in 2024, an increase of 0.9 percentage points from the previous year, the China Electricity Council said in a report released at the 2025 New Power System Development Forum in Chongli on Sept. 24.
The report projects that China’s rate will rise to around 35 percent by 2030, which would be 8 to 10 percentage points higher than the average among Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) member countries.
Regionally, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area led the nation with a 41.7 percent electrification rate last year, on par with Japan. The Yangtze River Delta followed at 34.1 percent, while the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Agglomeration recorded 29.5 percent and 21.4 percent, respectively.
