NextFin News — JD.com has launched China's first online departure tax refund service for overseas travelers in Beijing, the e-commerce company announced on Tuesday.
The digital service model removes traditional offline physical constraints by allowing international visitors to process tax refunds via designated in-city refund points or directly at departure ports. JD.com has currently made refund-eligible products available across six major retail categories, including mobile communications, digital electronics, and computer equipment, spanning nearly 300 item subcategories. Moving forward, the platform plans to expand its goods catalog to include trendy designer toys, cultural creative products, and domestic outdoor sports gear.
The company is co-developing an immediate "buy-and-refund" function alongside the Beijing Municipal Tax Bureau, the Beijing Municipal Commerce Bureau, and the Bank of China. The automated feature is scheduled to go live in the near future and will eventually scale to custom ports across additional domestic cities.
