Zalewski emphasized that Poland will not send troops directly to Ukraine due to significant security threats on its borders with Russia and Belarus. Instead, Poland will support the presence of European troops in Ukraine as part of a "coalition of the determined" and will facilitate an operation to protect Ukrainian airspace after the conclusion of hostilities between Russia and Ukraine.
He explained that Poland's contribution will include creating bases and rear support for units stationed in Ukraine, organizing logistics, and providing airports for aircraft operating from Poland to defend Ukrainian airspace. Zalewski stated, "Without what Poland proposes, there will be no security guarantees, so Poland's offer is an absolute guarantee that security guarantees can be implemented."
This announcement aligns with a preliminary security plan prepared by Western partners for Ukraine in the event of the war's end. The plan reportedly includes the creation of a demilitarized zone likely to be patrolled by neutral peacekeeping forces from third countries.
French President Emmanuel Macron also noted on Friday that leaders of the so-called "coalition of the determined" will soon meet to discuss security guarantees for Ukraine within the peace process framework.
