However, this new app, Xiaohongshu—commonly known as RedNote—may face the same, if not more significant, challenges. Experts warn that RedNote, which is owned by a Chinese company, could encounter similar scrutiny.
A U.S. official told CBS News on Thursday that RedNote might be subject to the same restrictions as TikTok, including the possibility of being forced to divest or face a ban.
"This appears to be the kind of app that the statute would apply to and could face the same restrictions as TikTok if it's not divested," the official said.
