AsianFin -- U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday signed two executive orders, declaring that there are only two sexes -- male and female, and putting an end to "radical and wasteful" diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs inside U.S. federal government.
In a phone call Monday morning ahead of Trump’s swearing-in, senior White House officials explained both orders, saying that they are part of the Trump administration’s wider “restoring sanity” agenda.
The order, which aims to require the federal government to use the term “sex” instead of “gender,” directs that the State Department and the Department of Homeland Security must use the gender-related term correctly in official government documents, including passports and visas, one of the officials said.
In 2022, the Biden administration gave U.S. citizens a right to select the gender-neutral "X" as a marker on their passports.
