U.S. index futures were mixed, with rotation out of high-valuation technology offset by relative strength in blue-chip value names. European markets were mixed: the FTSE 100 gained 48.37 points, or 0.45%, to 10,700.14 (range: 10,651.17–10,724.03), France’s CAC 40 edged up 3.64 points, or 0.04%, to 8,483.51, while Germany’s DAX fell 181.33 points, or 0.70%, to 25,636.56.
In commodities, crude oil recovered modestly after the previous session’s sharp decline: Brent crude rose $0.28, or 0.39%, to $72.29 a barrel, and WTI crude gained $0.29, or 0.26%, to $68.84 a barrel. Gold was weaker as yields and the dollar firmed, with spot gold down 0.6% at $4,140.88 an ounce and U.S. gold futures down 0.3% at $4,153.19. The U.S. Dollar Index held near the 101.00 level after earlier trading below that threshold.
