NextFin news, On Wednesday, September 3, 2025, in Kyiv, British Defence Secretary John Healey announced that the United Kingdom has allocated more than $1.3 billion in revenue generated from frozen Russian assets to provide military assistance to Ukraine. This funding has been used to purchase artillery ammunition, air defense missiles, drones, spare parts, and to establish new contracts for maintenance and repair of Ukrainian military equipment.
The UK Ministry of Defence confirmed that the aid package includes hundreds of thousands of artillery shells, hundreds of air defense missiles, over 2,500 drones, more than 200 electronic warfare systems, 100 light weapons, and 30 vehicles. The funds come from immobilized Russian assets and are part of a £2.26 billion loan to Ukraine, repaid through proceeds from these frozen assets.
During his visit to Kyiv, Healey emphasized that the UK is reviewing the readiness of its armed forces and accelerating funding to prepare for any potential deployment to Ukraine. He also co-chaired a virtual meeting of the Coalition of the Willing, involving representatives from over 30 countries, discussing military contributions to a possible multinational force for Ukraine.
Healey highlighted the deepening cooperation between the UK and Ukraine’s defense industries, building on a 100-year partnership agreement signed earlier this year. He stated, "The UK is stepping up our military support to help Ukraine defend itself against Putin’s illegal invasion, while working hard to secure peace tomorrow through the Coalition of the Willing."
The announcement coincided with the UK Foreign Secretary unveiling new sanctions against Russian officials involved in the deportation and indoctrination of Ukrainian children, with over 19,500 children reportedly forcibly transferred to Russia or Russian-occupied territories since the war began.
These developments mark a significant step in the UK’s ongoing support for Ukraine amid the conflict, reinforcing military aid funded by seized Russian assets and strengthening international cooperation.
