Canada will introduce new tariffs on a range of steel products — including many made in the United States — as Prime Minister Mark Carney moves to protect a domestic industry battered by the trade war and an influx of cheap Chinese metal.
Carney on Wednesday announced a 25% levy on steel derivative products as part of broader measures aimed at supporting Canadian producers. The tariff, which takes effect Dec. 26, will apply to about C$10 billion ($7.1 billion) of imported goods, including wind towers, prefabricated buildings, fasteners and wires.
