China Calls for Dialogue with the US Over TikTok Ban

NextFin news, China called on the United States on Friday to address their dispute over the popular social media app TikTok through dialogue and consultations based on mutual respect. This appeal came just days before the US deadline on September 17, which could see TikTok banned in the US unless sold to a non-Chinese buyer.

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce urged Washington to work with China to resolve concerns and find a solution that would ensure a fair and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese enterprises, including TikTok, to continue operating in the United States. The ministry emphasized that such dialogue would also promote healthy and sustainable economic ties between the two countries.

The US federal law requiring TikTok’s sale or removal from app stores was passed on national security grounds and was initially set to take effect before the January 2025 inauguration of President Donald Trump. The deadline has been extended three times, with the latest set for this Wednesday, September 17.

Senior officials from both countries are expected to discuss the TikTok issue on the sidelines of economic talks in Spain. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is scheduled to meet Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng to address broader trade and economic issues, with TikTok being a key topic on the agenda.

The call for dialogue was reported by multiple news agencies including Leadership Newspapers and Agence France-Presse, citing official statements from Beijing’s commerce ministry on Friday, September 12, 2025.
