Egypt Vows to Block Palestinian Displacement Amid Gaza Conflict

NextFin news, CAIRO – On Friday, Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a strong statement rejecting any displacement of Palestinians from Gaza through the Rafah crossing, responding directly to remarks by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The ministry condemned Netanyahu's statements as attempts to prolong regional escalation and instability.

Egypt emphasized that forced or voluntary displacement of Palestinians constitutes a violation of international humanitarian law and amounts to ethnic cleansing. The ministry called on the international community to hold Israel accountable for these actions, which it described as increasingly used for political propaganda amid a lack of international justice.

The statement reaffirmed Egypt's position that it will never be complicit in what it termed an injustice against the Palestinian people, declaring the prevention of displacement a "red line" that cannot be crossed. Egypt also urged for a ceasefire in Gaza, an Israeli withdrawal from the Strip, and international support for the legitimate Palestinian Authority to return to Gaza.

Furthermore, Egypt called on the United Nations Security Council and the broader international community to protect Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem, and to pressure Israel to end its occupation of Palestinian territories. The ministry rejected any attempts to force Palestinians to choose between enduring Israeli bombardment and starvation or expulsion from their land.

Egypt reiterated its support for the establishment of a Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, describing this as the inevitable resolution to the conflict.

This statement comes amid ongoing violence in Gaza and heightened tensions following Israeli military actions and political rhetoric. Egypt's stance highlights its role as a key regional actor seeking to prevent further humanitarian crises and displacement of Palestinians.
