EU Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas Predicts Ukraine War to Last at Least Two More Years

NextFin news, European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said on Thursday that the war in Ukraine is unlikely to end in 2025 and could last for at least two more years. She made the remarks during interviews with European media, including Spain's El Pais and the EFE agency.

Kallas described the conflict as being at a stalemate, with Russia gaining boldness as evidenced by its recent drone attack on Poland. She warned that the situation in Ukraine will remain unstable until there is a change in leadership on both sides of the conflict.

She also noted that international peace initiatives, including those promoted by former U.S. President Donald Trump, have so far failed to produce results. Kallas acknowledged the possibility of a less favorable outcome for Ukraine, including the forced acceptance of territorial concessions.

In addition to the conflict, Kallas highlighted China as a major challenge for the European Union, citing Beijing's support for Russia and coercive economic practices. She stressed that the EU currently lacks a unified strategy toward China, which hampers its ability to act cohesively on the global stage.

The statements came amid ongoing hostilities in Ukraine, where over 200 clashes occurred in the past day, with Russia launching dozens of missile and air strikes and deploying nearly 6,000 kamikaze drones. Ukrainian forces have continued to hold defensive positions across all fronts.

On the night of Wednesday to Thursday, Russia conducted a large-scale drone attack on Poland using 19 strike drones, of which Polish air defenses shot down four. Debris from the drones was found in 11 localities across three provinces, indicating careful preparation of the attack. Poland has requested additional air defense systems from NATO, including Patriot missiles, and is considering building a 'drone wall' to protect against future threats.

The information is based on reports from RBC Ukraine, Euronews, and Voennoedelo, with the original statements by Kaja Kallas published on Thursday, September 11, 2025.
