This change follows an executive order issued by President Donald Trump on his inauguration day, directing the renaming of the Gulf of Mexico.
The order also reversed an Obama-era decision to rename Mount McKinley to Denali, a name long used by Indigenous peoples. The Gulf of Mexico had been the widely recognized name for the body of water since the 16th century.
