Alphabet Inc.’s Google said it has developed a method that allows its latest Pixel smartphones to exchange images and other files with iPhones using Apple Inc.’s AirDrop protocol — a bold move aimed at chipping away at the exclusivity of Apple’s tightly controlled ecosystem.
AirDrop, in use for more than a decade, is integrated into Apple’s software platforms and enables fast, wireless file transfers between iPhones, iPads and Macs. Google offers a similar feature for Android devices known as Quick Share.
