NextFin news, India successfully conducted the maiden flight test of its Integrated Air Defence Weapon System (IADWS) on August 23, 2025, at around 12:30 PM off the coast of Odisha. The test was carried out by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
The IADWS is a multi-layered air defence system that integrates indigenous Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missiles (QRSAM), advanced Very Short Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) missiles, and a high-power laser-based Directed Energy Weapon (DEW).
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the DRDO and the industry on the successful flight test. He highlighted the system's capability to provide immediate response and counterattack against aerial threats.
The test marks a significant step in India's efforts to enhance its air defence capabilities with domestically developed technologies. The successful trial took place approximately three and a half months after the launch of 'Operation Sindur'.
The IADWS aims to provide a comprehensive shield against various aerial threats by combining missile and laser-based technologies in a single integrated platform.
