AsianFin — Intel Corp. on Monday unveiled a series of top executive changes, including the departure of longtime products chief Michelle Johnston Holthaus, as CEO Lip-Bu Tan accelerates efforts to revamp the struggling U.S. chipmaker.
Holthaus, who is leaving after more than three decades with Intel, held numerous senior leadership roles, including serving as interim co-CEO following the ouster of former CEO Pat Gelsinger last year. She will continue as a strategic adviser over the coming months to ensure a smooth transition.
Her exit comes as Tan seeks to flatten Intel’s leadership structure, with most of the company’s major chip groups reporting directly to him. The company is also pursuing job cuts to streamline operations and reduce costs, according to previous reports.
In another major move, Kevork Kechichian has joined Intel as executive vice president and general manager of the data center group. Kechichian, a veteran of the chip industry, most recently served as executive vice president of engineering at Arm and has held senior roles at NXP Semiconductors and Qualcomm. His appointment underscores Intel’s focus on strengthening its data center business, a key revenue driver.
Intel also announced the creation of a central engineering group, led by Srinivasan Iyengar, senior vice president. In this expanded role, Iyengar will spearhead the company’s new custom silicon business, targeting a wide range of external customers and expanding Intel’s footprint beyond traditional chip manufacturing.
