Lee Jae-yong Criticizes Samsung’s Lack of Internal Momentum

AsianFin – Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong recently commented that the company has lost its internal momentum and is at a critical juncture, urging executives to deeply reflect on the situation and to "leave no room for hesitation in responding to the crisis."

He emphasized that what matters most is not the crisis itself, but the attitude towards handling it. Even if it means sacrificing short-term profits, investment for the future should take priority.

Samsung Electronics, the core subsidiary of the group, has been facing challenges, particularly in its chip business. The performance of its Device Solutions (DS) division, which is responsible for semiconductor operations, has been disappointing, casting a shadow over the company’s outlook.

In the fourth quarter of last year, the division posted an operating profit of 2.9 trillion won (approximately 144.4 billion RMB) and sales of 30.1 trillion won. This was largely due to weaker performance in traditional (legacy) process chips and delays in delivering high-bandwidth memory (HBM).
