Poland Raises Air Defense to Highest Alert Following Russian Attacks Near Border

NextFin news, Poland's military raised its air defense to the highest alert and deployed fighter jets on this Wednesday in response to Russian missile and drone strikes targeting western Ukraine near the Polish border, according to the Polish Armed Forces Operational Command and multiple news reports including VG and Reuters.

The Russian attacks occurred early Wednesday morning, triggering air raid sirens across Ukraine by 2:40 a.m. Norwegian time, as the Ukrainian Air Force warned of incoming missile and drone threats. In reaction, Poland, a NATO member sharing a border with Ukraine, activated both Polish and allied aircraft to patrol and secure its airspace.

The Polish military also placed ground-based air defense and radar systems on full readiness to monitor and respond to any potential threats. The Operational Command stated that fighter jets were scrambled to ensure the safety of Polish territory and its citizens, especially in regions adjacent to the conflict zone.

These measures were taken following Russia's renewed airstrikes on Ukrainian territory, which have raised security concerns in neighboring countries. The Polish Armed Forces emphasized continuous monitoring of the situation and readiness to respond immediately to any developments.

Earlier, on August 30, Poland had also scrambled fighter jets in response to a massive Russian missile and drone attack on Ukraine, demonstrating ongoing vigilance amid escalating hostilities near its borders.
