NextFin news, In the early hours of August 8, 2025, Russian forces launched a large-scale drone attack on Ukraine, coinciding with the expiration of a ceasefire ultimatum issued by former U.S. President Donald Trump. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, over 100 drones were deployed, including 104 strike drones of the Shahed type and various other unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
The attack originated from multiple locations, including the Smolensk region, Kursk, Bryansk, and the annexed Crimea. Ukrainian air defense systems successfully intercepted and destroyed approximately 82 of the attacking drones, including three reactive drones and 79 Shahed drones.
One of the most affected areas was Bucha, located in the Kyiv region, where a kindergarten and several private homes sustained damage. Bucha's mayor, Anatoly Fedoruk, confirmed the destruction of the kindergarten and reported that the air defense forces had effectively neutralized many of the attacking drones. He emphasized that, despite the damage, there were no fatalities among civilians.
In addition to the damage in Bucha, reports indicated that three women were injured in the Buchansky district due to the strikes. The head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, Mykola Kalashnyk, noted that a total of 21 private homes, agricultural buildings, garages, and two under-construction apartment buildings were damaged in the Bucha district. He also mentioned that ten vehicles were affected by the attack.
The drone strikes also impacted other regions, including Kyiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Odesa, leading to widespread destruction and civilian injuries. The Ukrainian military continues to assess the full extent of the damage and the number of casualties resulting from this latest assault.
