AsianFin -- Sam Altman, an early investor in X and shareholder in Reddit, said Monday he has grown skeptical about whether social media posts are genuinely authored by humans, blaming the rise of bots for blurring the line.
Altman shared his thoughts after browsing the r/Claudecode subreddit, which has recently been flooded with posts praising OpenAI’s Codex, a coding assistant launched in May as a rival to Anthropic’s Claude Code. Many of the posts claim to come from former Claude Code users who say they’ve switched to Codex.
The sheer volume of similar testimonials has sparked jokes within the community. One Redditor quipped: “Is it possible to switch to Codex without posting a topic on Reddit?”
Altman admitted the experience left him unsettled. “I assume it’s all fake/bots, even though in this case I know Codex growth is really strong and the trend here is real,” he wrote on X.
