NextFin news, Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old man, was arrested on Friday, September 12, 2025, for the shooting of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. The shooting occurred on the university campus earlier that day.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox confirmed that Robinson was not a current student at the university and had been living with his family in Washington County, southwestern Utah. Robinson arrived at the campus at 8:29 a.m. local time on the day of the shooting and was seen wearing a maroon t-shirt, light-colored shorts, a black hat with a white logo, and light-colored shoes.
Authorities revealed that Robinson changed clothes on the roof of a building before changing back later. After the shooting, he left a rifle wrapped in a dark towel in a nearby wooded area and drove back to his family home, approximately three and a half hours away from the university.
The arrest followed a tip from a family member who contacted a friend, who then informed the Washington County Sheriff's Office that Robinson had confessed or implied his involvement in the shooting.
Governor Cox also disclosed that Robinson inscribed messages on the bullet casings used in the shooting. The FBI director confirmed that Robinson was taken into custody on Thursday evening.
The suspect is expected to be charged with aggravated murder. The investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement officials continue to gather evidence related to the case.
