Sweden to Host NATO Logistics Headquarters in Enköping, Operational by 2027

NextFin news, On August 21, 2025, the Swedish government confirmed that the town of Enköping, located northwest of Stockholm, will serve as the site for a NATO logistics headquarters responsible for coordinating troop movements and logistics in Northern Europe.

The logistics base will primarily manage the transportation of troops and supplies from North America to Finland and the Baltic states, particularly in scenarios involving heightened security threats or conflict. The facility is expected to employ around 70 personnel during peacetime, with the capacity to expand to 160 staff members in times of war or heightened alert.

Swedish Defence Minister Pål Jonson stated, "NATO's presence in Sweden strengthens our security and deterrence. The logistics centre assists the defence of NATO's northern flank." He further explained that the base's operations will include transporting various supplies such as fuel, ammunition, and spare parts across Swedish territory.

The Swedish Armed Forces have been tasked with preparing and establishing the headquarters to ensure it is fully operational by the end of 2027. The headquarters will be integrated into NATO's command structure, with staffing coordinated centrally by NATO, allowing allied nations to second officers to the base.

Enköping's strategic location in Sweden provides a critical logistical hub for NATO's northern operations, facilitating rapid deployment and support of forces in the Nordic and Baltic regions. This development follows Sweden's decision to join NATO in March 2024, ending over two centuries of military non-alignment, in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
