NextFin news, The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) announced on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, that it will launch a new mobile application called the e-Aadhaar app by the end of 2025. This app aims to simplify and secure the process of updating Aadhaar details for residents across India.
The e-Aadhaar app will allow users to update personal information such as name, address, date of birth, gender, mobile number, and email address directly from their smartphones without the need to visit Aadhaar Seva Kendras. However, biometric updates like fingerprint and iris scans will still require physical verification at designated centers.
UIDAI has integrated advanced technologies into the app, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Face ID verification, to facilitate fast and secure logins, reducing reliance on OTPs and passwords. The app will also feature automatic document verification by fetching supporting documents from verified government databases, including birth certificates, PAN cards, passports, driving licenses, ration cards, and MNREGA records. For address proof, utility bills such as electricity bills will be accepted.
Security enhancements include the ability for users to lock and unlock their biometric data to prevent unauthorized access and misuse. The app will also support sharing Aadhaar identity securely via encrypted QR codes, allowing verification without exposing sensitive information.
UIDAI stated that the e-Aadhaar app will be available for download on both Android and iOS platforms, ensuring accessibility for users in urban and rural areas. The rollout will be phased, with features being added progressively.
The app will also provide real-time monitoring of update requests, sending alerts to users upon completion. While some Aadhaar updates can currently be done online for free until June 14, 2025, UIDAI indicated that a nominal fee may apply for certain updates through the app after this date.
UIDAI emphasized that users should download the app only from official sources such as the UIDAI website or authorized app stores to avoid fraud.
This initiative is part of UIDAI's broader effort to enhance digital governance in India by making Aadhaar services more user-friendly, transparent, and secure.
