Ukrainians Favor European Peace Plan Over Russian and US Proposals

NextFin news, A survey conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KMIС) from July 23 to August 4, 2025, shows that a narrow majority of Ukrainians support a peace plan proposed by European nations. The survey results indicate that 54% of respondents are in favor of a joint European-Ukrainian plan, which includes security guarantees from Europe and the United States, while 76% categorically reject Russia's demands for Ukraine to capitulate.

The survey categorized peace proposals into three distinct plans: one from the United States, one from Europe in conjunction with Ukraine, and one from Russia. The findings reveal a significant shift in public opinion since May 2025, with an increase in the acceptance of the European plan and a slight rise in support for the US plan, which is still viewed unfavorably by many.

Specifically, 39% of respondents indicated they could accept the US plan, which includes provisions for security guarantees but also recognizes Russian control over occupied territories. In contrast, the Russian plan, which demands Ukraine to demilitarize and recognize Crimea and other territories as part of Russia, is rejected by the vast majority of the population.

According to KMIС, the public's willingness to consider the European plan reflects a desire for a resolution that does not compromise Ukraine's sovereignty. The plan suggests that while Russia may retain control over certain territories, this would not be officially recognized by Ukraine or the international community.

Despite the ongoing conflict and the challenges posed by Russian military actions, the survey indicates that Ukrainians remain open to negotiations, albeit under conditions that respect their national integrity. The findings highlight the complexities of the peace process, as public sentiment continues to evolve in response to the realities of the war.

As the situation develops, the Ukrainian government, led by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, is expected to engage with European leaders to discuss the implementation of the proposed peace plan and to seek further support from the international community.
