US House Approves $892.6 Billion 2026 Defense Budget Including $400 Million Aid for Ukraine

NextFin news, On Wednesday, September 10, 2025, the US House of Representatives in Washington, D.C., approved the defense policy bill for fiscal year 2026 with a budget of $892.6 billion. The bill includes $400 million designated for the Pentagon's initiative to assist Ukraine in the field of security.

The legislation was passed by a vote of 231 to 196, largely along party lines. It aims to enhance military readiness and increase salaries for American servicemembers. However, it also prohibits providing medical assistance to servicemembers based on gender equality considerations and rejects efforts to protect access to abortion services for military personnel.

Despite significant opposition from some Republican members to military aid for Ukraine, the House rejected a proposal by Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia to cut funding for Ukraine. Both Republicans and Democrats voted against the funding cut.

The bill also requires the Pentagon to report to Congress if the administration plans to cancel or suspend military aid to Ukraine that Congress has already approved.

This approval follows the United States' recent decision in August 2025 to provide an additional $203.5 million in military aid to Ukraine. The ongoing support reflects the US commitment to Ukraine's security amid the ongoing conflict in the region.
